Alejandro Garnacho sends emotional 7-word message to former Man United player
Alejandro Garnacho has sent an emotional seven-word message to a former Manchester United player.
Copa America champions Argentina faced Chile in a World Cup qualifier early Friday morning, with Alejandro Garnacho starting on the bench.
Argentina held a 1-0 lead when the Manchester United winger was brought on in the 79th minute, and they went on to secure a 3-0 victory.
Garnacho made a strong impact, completing nine of his 11 passes, executing a successful dribble, and assisting Paulo Dybala’s goal in the closing moments.
The 20-year-old’s composed display on the left wing earned praise from manager Lionel Scaloni after the match.
Former United player Angel Di Maria had retired from Argentina before the clash after a successful international career.
Di Maria, who won the World Cup in 2022, was honoured at River Plate Stadium on Thursday night following the country’s 3-0 win over Chile.
After the game, Garnacho took to social media to dedicate a post to Di Maria and his “eternal” impact on the Argentina national team.
He wrote on X: “Eternal. Thank you for so much, Legend,” with a love heart emoji and several emotional emojis.
Of course, Di Maria is a controversial figure for many United supporters after an unsuccessful one-year spell at Old Trafford after joining from Real Madrid in 2014.
He left the club after just one season and now names Louis van Gaal as the worst manager in his career.
During the 2014/15 campaign, Di Maria made 32 appearances for United, scoring four goals and registering 11 assists.
