Manchester United have their eyes set on a Premier League midfielder to replace Casemiro, and the club could make a move “very soon”.
Life under Michael Carrick has been a breath of fresh air for Manchester United fans as the squad looks to have some stability, securing 13 points out of a possible 15 in the Premier League.
One crucial factor to their success has been the Brazilian veteran, Casemiro, who has confirmed his departure from the club at the end of the season, with the five-time Champions League winner’s contract coming to an end.
United have made their midfield a top priority in the summer after prioritising their attention to the front line in the previous summer and seeing no major changes in January.
One particular Premier League star has emerged as a top candidate to make the move to Old Trafford.
Sandro Tonali hints at Man United move
According to reports from Football Insider, Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has revealed that Newcastle star Sandro Tonali’s agent has made “whispers” regarding a potential exit.
Wynness highlighted the possibility of a move to Manchester United, stating: “I can see it happening. Tonali has made those noises. He’s done it very discreetly. He realises that you can’t come out and say it in Newcastle.”
“But I think there’s been certainly some whispers behind the scenes from his agent, and I think United would be a natural progression for him.”
“I think that Tonali to United could be one that we could see talk about it very soon and moves being made sooner rather than later.”
Would Tonali be a good fit at Old Trafford?
Realistically, United would need a physical presence in midfield with the ability to win back possession and allow the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and captain Bruno Fernandes to play to their strengths.
Casemiro has shown his excellence over his four seasons at the club as an elite ball winner, demonstrating solid game intelligence and adding a sense of leadership to what has been a shaky United side.

Tonali has the grit and effort to perform to those standards, and with his deceptively athletic profile and elite work rate, the Italian could be the best fit for United.
However, the 25-year-old could come at a heavy price, with Eddie Howe valuing him greatly at Newcastle. Furthermore, Champions League football could be a deciding factor in the logistics of a move.
United only have the Premier League to focus on, and with their current run of form under Carrick, Champions League football should be at the front of everyone’s mind.
