Manchester United confident of Viktor Gyökeres deal despite Mikel Arteta transfer claim
Manchester United are still said to be confident in securing Viktor Gyökeres this summer despite a recent transfer claim from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
Manchester United are preparing to reinforce their attack as Rúben Amorim’s side struggle to find consistent form in front of goal.
Scoring has been a major concern for United this season, with the team often limited to a single goal per game. Their lacklustre performances at Old Trafford have further emphasised the need for attacking improvements.
With the futures of players like Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho uncertain, United are expected to prioritise strengthening their forward line in the summer transfer window.
Despite financial challenges, Amorim is likely to push the board to secure the attacking reinforcements needed to resolve the team’s goal-scoring woes and bring fresh energy to the squad.
United confident of securing Gyökeres this summer
One striker United have been continually linked to is Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres, who has become a name known as across Europe after scoring 62 goals in 2024.
According to The Independent, despite intense interest from rivals, United feel they will be able to hold others off and secure Gyökeres this summer.
Although United cannot afford the 26-year-old this month, with Sporting reportedly demanding as much as £80 million for the player in the winter window, their demands for the summer are said to be softer.
There are claims that a gentleman’s agreement is in place that will allow the Swedish international to leave for around £63 million.
Arteta’s Arsenal transfer claim
United’s confidence comes despite Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitting that his club are now looking to sign a striker in January following a long-term injury to Gabriel Jesus.
Gyökeres is said to have been raised as a target within Arsenal’s transfer meetings, although they are also looking at securing Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko or Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.

“We have lost two massive players for us in the front line, and we need some support there,” Arteta said in light of reports suggesting that their search for a striker could be brought forward to January.
“Obviously we have more necessity now because of what happened in the last few weeks. That’s obvious.
“I think it’s more a question for [interim sporting director] Jason [Ayto]. I don’t know, but I think we have to do what we think is right and we can do as well. And that’s it.
“It’s clear that we would like to improve the squad, especially with what happened. Can we do it or not depends on other factors.”
