Jamie Carragher reveals what may happen for Cole Palmer to join Manchester United in 2025
Jamie Carragher has, rather astonishingly, explained a chain of events that he feels would lead to Chelsea’s Cole Palmer signing for Manchester United.
Manchester United are famous throughout history for their attacking talent. From the days of George Best to more recent times of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and now those such as Alejandro Garnacho, it as been a staple of the Old Trafford club.
However, in the modern Premier League, and more generally in modern football, the plethora of attacking talent throughout Europe and beyond is more than enough for all clubs to share – although United fans have always wanted the best.
Chelsea’s star player is Cole Palmer, who signed from Manchester City in 2023 for a fee of around £40 million.
Recently winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award, Palmer exploded onto the scene across 2023/24, scoring 27 goals for his club and netting in the 2024 European Championships final for England.
Although Palmer grew up playing for Manchester City, he was a United fan as a kid, and this has led to many suspecting that, at some point in his career, he may end up donning the Red shirt at Old Trafford.
Despite his heroics for Chelsea, the London club finished sixth in the league table, falling to quality for either the Champions League or Europa League. They had to settle for Europa Conference League football for the 2024/25 campaign.
Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher explained that if Chelsea have another poor season, he reckons this may well set up Palmer for a move to United in 2025.
“Something’s just come to me here,” he said. “If Chelsea have another poor season, we were talking earlier about Manchester United having a real problem on that right wing.
“He [Palmer] is a big Man United fan, isn’t he? Would that not be something that United should visit maybe in 12 months if it doesn’t go well?”
Carragher added: “You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer to Man United.”
Palmer addressed his childhood allegiances earlier this year, speaking to reporters in April after scoring a hat-trick against the Reds at Stamford Bridge in a 4-3 Premier League thriller.
“Yeah, when I was growing up, I was a United fan. I just think to try and do the same thing to each time. But I’ve scored away and a few here today, so I’m buzzing.
“I just try and take each game as it comes and show the Chelsea fans and everyone what I came here to do and that is just play football.”
