The Premier League have confirmed the referee who will officiate Man City vs Manchester United, and he has given 82 yellow cards already this season.

Rúben Amorim is preparing Manchester United for a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City, an early litmus test for the new head coach.

United arrive at the Etihad with momentum, following a 2-1 comeback victory over FC Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League, where substitute Rasmus Højlund scored twice to seal the win. With the festive fixture list in full swing, the focus now shifts back to league matters.

Manchester City are enduring a tough spell, with only one win in their last ten games across all competitions. Earlier this season, Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a bruising 4-1 defeat to Amorim’s Sporting, a result that has added to their struggles.

With City’s pursuit of a fifth consecutive Premier League title in jeopardy, United will look to deepen their rivals’ woes and climb up the table from 13th place when the two teams face off at City’s home ground.

The referee for the tie is now confirmed.

Confirmed officials

Anthony Taylor (pictured below) will be the referee on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Taylor has officiated 13 Premier League matches this season and a few in UEFA competitions.

Taylor has met United twice this season, officiating the side’s 3-0 loss against Liverpool and their 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, which happened to be Amorim’s first match in charge of United.

So far this season, Taylor has issued 53 yellow cards in the Premier League and 82 across all competitions. He’s issued one red card in the league, seven penalties, and two spot kicks in the Nations League and Europa League.

Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will be on the sidelines as Taylor’s assistant referees during the game. Tim Robinson will separate Amorim and Guardiola as the fourth official on Sunday afternoon.

Stuart Attwell has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Simon Bennett will act as assistant VAR.
