“Not having that!” Arsenal legend surprised at Man United suggestion for Team of the Season
Arsenal’s legendary goalkeeper has explained his surprise when it was suggested that André Onana could be selected as Premier League Goalkeeper of the Season.
André Onana is one of three Manchester United players who have been nominated for the Premier League Team of the Season award, with the Cameroon international causing controversy during his first season at Old Trafford.
Alongside Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, who have also been nominated for the award, Onana has been one of Erik ten Hag‘s most consistent performers in the league despite a torrid season in which the club finished eighth in the table.

Onana’s main issues came during the first half of the campaign when multiple blunders saw the former Inter Milan man concede sloppy goals and make costly mistakes in the Champions League. This led to United finishing bottom of their group and out of Europe entirely.
However, legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, who played 263 games in the old First Divison and a further 344 in the Premier League, believes that Onana has not done enough to receive the award of Goalkeeper of the Season.
“I cannot give him goalkeeper of the season for some of those saves he attempted to make,” he told his podcast Seaman Says. “I’m not having that! He’s made some great saves, don’t get me wrong. But some of the saves he attempted to make were shockers.
The former England international then joked: “That could be the surprise of the season, some of the saves he’s made!”
Despite his poor moments at the beginning of the season, Onana has proven himself to be of great use to United. He is developing into a leader at the club and speaks several major languages, which allows him to communicate with most players without any major difficulty.
He has also been subject to having to play with over 30 back-line combinations during an injury-stricken campaign at Old Trafford, which has led to high levels of instability at the back. All in all, Onana has performed well during his first season in English football.
