Three European clubs have seemingly reacted as Manchester United reportedly change their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho this summer.
Manchester United are preparing for a significant summer clear-out as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s rebuild. With the new manager expected to bring a high-intensity, tactically disciplined approach, several current players are unlikely to fit into his plans.
Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, United are also planning to sell loaned-out players such as Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, none of whom are expected to be part of Amorim’s long-term vision.
Casemiro is another senior figure likely to move on, as the club aim to reshape the squad with younger, more dynamic talent suited to Amorim’s style.
United change Garnacho asking price
With United in need of funds, there have been rumours that the club are open to the possibility of selling Academy graduates to raise cash, with those players being in the unique position of their sales being counted as pure profit on the books.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been firm that the club would not sell Academy players for purely financial purposes. Still, rumours about Kobbie Mainoo’s and Alejandro Garnacho’s futures continue to swirl.
In January, Garnacho was subject to intense interest from Napoli, with United placing their valuation for the teenage star at around £70 million.
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, United have dropped their price and have set a tag of around £50 million for the winger this summer.
Three clubs are circling Garnacho
Amid this news, the report also states that three clubs are lining up moves for the 20-year-old Argentina international in the summer.
Napoli, who came close to securing Garnacho in January, are said to still be in the running. “Garnacho is a player that we like and we have liked,” Napoli sporting director Gioanni Manna said last month when asked why a deal never materialised.
“We considered him even before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s departure. We met. We made a very important offer to United. We came close to their demands, very close.”
“In order to leave the Premier League in January, because in July it is different, the player [Garnacho] probably wanted to be satisfied financially.
“It’s something which we can’t do right now, we are no willing to do and I don’t think it is right. When you have an average salary within the dressing room and I bring in a young player that earns a medium to high salary, I don’t find it correct for those players that are doing important work here.”
Beyond Napoli, Chelsea are also said to continue to hold a significant interest in the player, while the winger’s former club, Atletico Madrid, have joined the race.
