Man United receive transfer setback after Erik ten Hag’s surprise injury update
Manchester United began their 2024/25 Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Friday evening, and Erik ten Hag provided an injury update after the game.
Although the Reds played well, they struggled to make the most of their initial chances. Bruno Fernandes had the two best opportunities in the first half, but Bernd Leno kept him at bay both times.
Erik ten Hag’s side pressed effectively and created several chances, but the finishing touch was lacking until Joshua Zirkzee came on.
The Dutch striker scored a superb late goal, drifting into the box and providing a deft touch to Alejandro Garnacho’s cross, guiding the ball into the corner and clinching the win for his new club.
Harry Maguire was also one of the standout players for United but with substituted late on in the game with what looked to be an injury.
However, After full-time, Ten Hag stated that it was only a precaution and detailed that there were no injuries for United in the game – something that seems to be a surprise for the club these days
“Not injured, but I had to bring him off as he had a problem,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports when asked about Maguire. “The win is so important, but I am so happy to have no injuries today.”
However one player who is currently injured is Victor Lindelöf, and he is also a player who United are looking to sell this summer.
After playing the first five pre-season fixtures, Lindelöf was substituted at half-time during the final USA tour game against Liverpool, with Ten Hag later confirming it was a precautionary measure.
However, upon the team’s return to the United Kingdom, Lindelöf was not seen in training and has since missed the games against Manchester City and Fulham.
On Saturday, Lindelöf was spotted using crutches. While the specific nature of his injury remains unclear, the fact that he is using a crutch on his left side suggests he may be dealing with an injury to his left leg.
This could jeopardise any potential transfer this summer, and it seems likely that the Swedish defender will remain at Old Trafford until at least the January transfer window.
