Manchester United have received a transfer boost as one of their targets have rejected an offer for a new contract.

The Reds are aiming to improve their squad this summer after a disappointing Premier League campaign saw them finish eighth last season.

While the FA Cup triumph at the end of the season ensured that Erik ten Hag’s side provided a level of success, there still needs to be much improvement.

INEOS has identified the midfield as one of the priority positions to strengthen, with the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen likely to depart the club this summer.

It has been reported that United has submitted a bid of approximately £51 million for Benfica’s 19-year-old sensation Joao Neves.

The Portuguese club quickly rejected that offer, as they are looking for closer to £85 million for the talented teenager.

United’s next actions will likely depend on how well they can sell players this summer, with the likes of Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho available for transfer.

In the meantime, it has been reported by Record that Benfica have discussed a new contract with Neves involving a salary increase, which would’ve given them even more power in any negotiations.

However, the Metro have claimed that Neves has turned that offer down in what appears to be a boost for United.

It is unlikely that any advanced negotiations will be made until the managerial situation at Old Trafford is resolved.

Erik ten Hag is unaware whether he will still be the United boss next season, but confirmation is expected later this week.
