Manchester United target “no longer on the list” as another transfer becomes obvious
One Manchester United target is “no longer on the list” for the club as another transfer becomes obvious.
The Reds are aiming to complete their final additions to Erik ten Hag’s squad in the coming weeks after signing Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui last week.
With Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee joining earlier this summer, United’s attention is now on reinforcing their midfield and left-back positions. However, more player sales will be necessary to fund these moves.
Manuel Ugarte remains the top choice to strengthen the midfield at Old Trafford, while various options are being explored to solidify the defence.
According to Sky Germany, Burnley midfielder Sander Berge is no longer on United’s list for midfielders as he is closing in on a move to Fulham.
The 26-year-old was close to signing for the Reds several years ago under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but a move never came to fruition.
He was once again linked recently as a cheaper option than Ugarte and someone who could become a squad option at Old Trafford.
It was added that Ugarye remains high on the Reds’ priority list, with ongoing negotiations between United and Paris Saint-Germain.
The 23-year-old is awaiting an agreement, the report adds, with it seeming clear that he is not in the plans in Paris after missing the end of pre-season and the start of the new campaign.
Alongside reports that suggest that the French club want to sell him before the window closes, it is starting to seem clear that a transfer will eventually happen.
He will have no role at PSG and his value will only go down further with a year of no football. Instead, United are likely waiting for PSG to lower their demands.
A deal will likely not be completed until the September international break approaches. That would mean Ugarte’s potential debut would come in mid-September.
