One Manchester United starlet has sent a message to fans as their future at Old Trafford is uncertain after the summer.

The Reds have had major academy success over the last week, with Ethan Wheatley’s debut for the first team marking a memorable moment for the club.

Wheatley, 18, became the 250th academy graduate when he made his debut against Sheffield United.

He had scored a brace for the Under-18s in their Premier League Cup final against Manchester City the night before as Adam Lawrence’s side lifted their second trophy of the season.

However, there was also a great occasion for one Red on loan earlier this week, with Alvaro Fernandez netting his first goal in professional football.

The left-back scored the third of the night for Benfica on Monday with a well-taken finish after he took down a long pass inside the area.

Fernandez had been struggling on his loan in Portugal with minimal chances to impress until recent weeks, where he has received praise from Benfica supporter after starting two games in a row.

“We always want to win, do our best and today we did well, and I’m happy for the team and the goal,” Fernandez said after the win on Monday.

“I’m proud, I came here to help and do my best. I’ve been welcomed from the start. I just have to keep working. My teammates are doing their best to integrate me quickly.”

The defender joined Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 and won the Under-21s Player of the Year in the 2021/22 campaign. He spent the season afterwards on loan at Preston North End and won their Young Player of the Year award.

Fernandez’s future at United is uncertain and reports have suggested that even if Benfica do not attempt to buy the defender after the season, he has interest from elsewhere.
