Man United’s stance on Adam Wharton transfer after ‘rejecting’ Crystal Palace midfielder last season
Manchester United’s stance on a potential Adam Wharton transfer has been detailed after ‘rejecting’ the Crystal Palace midfielder last season.
After excelling in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers, Wharton was signed by Crystal Palace in January last season for £18 million.
Wharton, 20, took that form straight into the Premier League and impressed under Oliver Glasner.
It has since been revealed by Andy Mitten on the Talk Of The Devils podcast that United had the opportunity to sign Wharton before his Palace move, but rejected the offer.
“Adam Wharton was offered to Manchester United before he moved to Crystal Palace and Manchester United declined,” explained Mitten.
“Adam Wharton lives close to Manchester. I’ve got no evidence that Manchester United are going back in for him.
“[He has] done exceptionally well at Palace; the people close to him were not surprised at all about that.
“I was told last November, I was with someone out in Manchester who was just raving and raving about him, admittedly someone close to the player.”
That will be something that the club could regret, with the player set to be priced at a much steeper fee by The Eagles in the future.
A recent report from GiveMeSport has explained that Wharton is still a name in United’s sights for a potential transfer.
The 20-year-old forced his way into England’s Euro 2024 squad after an excellent season with Crystal Palace last term, but the Reds are currently focusing elsewhere to strengthen their midfield.
Manuel Ugarte of PSG is the priority target, while Wharton is expected to remain at Selhurst Park for this coming season.
However, there are rumours that United would consider signing Ugarte on a loan deal, and the other options they are looking at are low-cost squad players.
There is every chance that come next summer, Wharton will be available for transfer and it seems that United would be one of the clubs interested in the talented midfielder.
