Christian Eriksen will return to Manchester United action next month, Erik ten Hag has confirmed.

The Denmark international has spent two months on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup victory against Reading.

United have been without his quality in the middle of the pitch in a busy period of the season which has seen the club win the Carabao Cup and progress to the latter stages of the FA Cup and Europa League.

With an important last few months of the campaign remaining, Ten Hag will receive a boost from the returning Eriksen, who will return after the international break.

“It is very positive. He healed very quickly,” said the 53-year-old to TV2 after United won against Real Betis on Thursday night.

“I don’t think he will be ready for Sunday [against Fulham], but he will be ready in April.

“He is on his way back, and we are happy about that. He is a class player that we need.”

Eriksen is a unique profile of midfielder within the United set up, with none of the other midfield options offering the same progressiveness and calmness in possession.

The Dane is still United’s second top assister so far this season despite his lay-off, with nine to his name. He also notched two goals before his injury.

His pending return comes at a good time for The Reds, who will be missing Brazilian midfielder Casemiro for the next four domestic fixtures after he saw himself receive a red card against Southampton.
