Manchester United have received the perfect update regarding two players, which is good news for Erik ten Hag’s side next season.

The Reds will return for pre-season training in the coming days, but many players will be on staggered returns as they compete with their nations this summer.

A handful of Reds, including Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, remain at Euro 2024, while three players are in the United States on Copa America duty.

Two of those are expected to be key players for Erik ten Hag’s team next term in Lisandro Martínez and Alejandro Garnacho, both who are competing for Argentina.

Interestingly, there were concerns about both players heading into the summer tournament for very different reasons.

Martínez had only just returned from a lengthy injury period. In fact, these setbacks impacted his entire campaign last season. He returned at the end of the season and played an important role in the FA Cup final win, but many still had concerns.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Garnacho had just had the polar opposite season. His availability and form throughout the season led to him making 50 appearances for the team.

More importantly, 41 of those were starts, and he ended up being in Ten Hag’s starting team in 28 consecutive Premier League fixtures. Fans were concerned about Garnacho’s burnout and potential injury, who was also rumoured to be in Argentina’s Olympics squad.

Now that the tournament is heading towards its final stages, with Argentina through to the semi-finals, it appears that both players are being handled exactly how United would want it.

Martínez has been a crucial player for Lionel Scanoli since he took over from Nicolás Otamendi in the backline. He has started every game, scoring in the quarter-final, and looks increasingly sharp. It seems that game time is exactly what he needs.

On the other hand, Garnacho has played just once during the tournament so far, in the final group game when Argentina’s place in the knockouts had already been secured.

While Scanoli has reiterated the potential impact the 19-year-old could make from the bench, no United fans will be complaining about his lack of game-time in the tournament. It has also been confirmed that he will not compete in the Olympics.

With the new season sneaking up on us, it seems like both Martínez and Garnacho are having the perfect summer campaigns – in the club’s eyes, at least.
