Man United ‘pressing’ for £35 million Serie A signing in ‘unexpected’ Old Trafford move
Manchester United are pressing for the unexpected signing of Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan in a potential £35 million move to Old Trafford, according to reports.
Manchester United have been struggling with regard to their centre-backs this season, with Erik ten Hag‘s back-line taking a massive hit with injury problems.
Every single one of his five central defenders have been out with injury at some point in the campaign, with many pointing to the minutes Jonny Evans has played despite being a 5th-choice defender as an example of the severity of the issues.
United have been leaking goals so far, becoming the first English club to concede 15 goals during the Champions League group stage, where they finished bottom of Group A and crashed out entirely.
This has led to United scouring the market for new centre-backs, and they have landed on the name of former Chelsea player Fikayo Tomori, with the club “pressing” for the player.
This is according to Milan Web, who described that Tomori’s time at AC Milan could be “abruptly and rather unexpectedly” cut short in 2024 with United wanting to sign him, translated by Sport Witness.
It is added that Tomori’s transfer fee could be in the region of around £35 million and that United are unlikely to try and make a move in January, instead eyeing up a summer deal.
AC Milan are likely to need to raise funds after this season with the club strapped for cash, and Tomori could be an asset that they may sacrifice in order to make money in the summer window.
