Man United could “tempt” Premier League club with £40m bid – Manager admits “we’re a selling club”
Manchester United could “tempt” one Premier League club with a potential £40 million bid after their manager admitted “we’re a selling club”.
The Reds are in desperate need of further signings in the coming weeks as the new Premier League season approaches.
So far, Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee have been the only signings for Erik ten Hag’s squad. Additions at centre-back, central midfield and fullback are crucial.
However, another signing could also be on the cards after Rasmus Højlund suffered a six-week injury in pre-season.
Currently, Zirkzee is the only recognised striker, and even he admits that he is more of a “9.5” rather than an out-and-out goalscorer.
According to a recent report from The Telegraph, Ten Hag is eager to bring in another attacker following Højlund’s injury.
The outlet indicated that Brentford forward Ivan Toney is a potential target for United. However, previous reports have mentioned that the club would only pursue Toney if his price drops below £40 million.
Yet, a new Forbes report has explained that The Bees could be tempted into a move for around £40 million despite previously valuing the striker at around £100 million.
They do not want to lose the 28-year-old on a free transfer next summer at the end of his contract, which has led to the lowered demands. United have struggled in the goalscoring department under Ten Hag, and Toney is a proven Premier League goalscorer.
When asked about the striker last week, Thomas Frank interestingly admitted that Brentford is a “selling club,” although he expressed happiness that Toney remains with the team for now.
“What I’m focusing on is that Ivan [Toney] is a Brentford player, and I’m very happy that he’s here,” he told Sky.
“If Ivan is here when we start the season, I would be over the moon. [But as] I’ve said before, we are a selling club but what I know is that Ivan is a player for us.”
