Man United receive major transfer setback after opening talks for £20m star
Manchester United have received a major transfer setback after they opened talks for a potential £20 million midfield signing.
United have decided to look elsewhere for midfield additions after concluding that Paris Saint-Germain’s demands for Manuel Ugarte were unreasonable.
According to Sky Sports, the Reds have since held initial talks with AS Monaco over the potential signing of French midfielder Youssouf Fofana.
The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and has already agreed personal terms with AC Milan but there is a problem between the two clubs over a fee.
Milan are refusing to offer more than £17 million, so a potential move for around £20 million could put United in a strong position.
Sky Germany have added that United presented their projects and plans to the player around two to three weeks ago but are yet to make a concrete offer to the French outfit.
However, there could be problems with bringing in a midfielder after Sky also revealed that Fulham are not expected to bid again for Scott McTominay.
The Cottagers made an initial bid of £17 million for the Scotsman and then upped their offer by a few million pounds. United are looking for between £25-30 million.
It has been well reported that United needs to sell in order to buy, and McTominay seemed like the most likely exit to generate funds.
Reports elsewhere have explained that the Old Trafford club were hoping that Casemrio would be sold this summer but, as it stands, there are no takers for the Brazilian.
INEOS will need to figure out the best way to move forward in the coming days. Erik ten Hag’s side are in desperate need of a new midfielder but the club cannot be messed around like they have in previous years.
