Man United receive new Jarrad Branthwaite transfer update with mixed messages
Manchester United are interested in making Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite one of their star summer signings, and there has been an interesting update on his future.
The Reds are planning for major changes this summer under the new INEOS leadership. Almost no player is safe from the club at least considering offers.
Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho are the only three players who are considered “untouchable” during the window.
INEOS will certainly aim to sign some talented players as well to strengthen the squad for Erik ten Hag or another manager.
One of the priority positions for those at Old Trafford is central defence. There is doubt over the futures of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf; while Raphael Varane is expected to depart at the end of the season on a free transfer.
This has led to reports that INEOS will attempt to sign two different centre-backs, with one name being the overwhelming favourite.
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a United move for several months now. In March, sources told UtdDistrict that the defender is very appreciated at Old Trafford and that he is the favoured option to provide additional strength in the backline.
Sean Dyche’s side have clinched safety in the Premier League after a relegation-fighting season which started with a points deduction.
There is a view that Everton might need to sell the likes of Branthwaite in the summer for financial reasons; however, it appears they are keen to keep the talented defender for at least another year.
According to Football Insider, the Toffees are attempting to persuade Branthwaite to stay for one more season as they will be unable to bring in a big-money replacement.
The report explains that ‘crunch talks’ are set to take place between the defender’s camp and the Merseyside club at the end of the season.
It was reiterated that there is “strong interest” from United, with the English centre-back being the top-rated candidate in the role this summer.
And it is said that the Old Trafford side are confident that Everton would accept a bid for Branthwaite between £60-70 million.
