Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has told new owners INEOS to make a “game-changing” signing from a Premier League rival.

United have had major difficulties this term. They are seventh in the Premier League and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup and Champions League in the early stages.

The FA Cup is the only hope of ending the season successfully, and no matter what, INEOS will be looking to make major changes when the summer transfer window opens.

Changes away from the pitch are already being made, with Omar Berrada coming in as the chief executive. Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox will help lead the recruitment structure.

Player exits are not so far away, and one position that United could need to recruit in is the midfield. Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Scott McTominay all have uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

Silvestre, who spent nine years at Old Trafford, believes that the club should be looking to snatch Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle.

“Guimaraes is a very good player. I’ve known him since he was in Brazil. Then he spent time at Lyon and he’s very good,” the former defender told bettingexpert.com.

“He’s dynamic, strong, good on the ball, he’s aggressive and suits the Premier League style of play. He’s got an eye for goal from time to time.

“He’s in the Brazil national team and he’s at a good age. I’m sure there will be a lot of teams looking if Newcastle were interested in selling.

“Guimaraes, Fernandes and Mainoo could be a good combination. I’ve no doubt about that.

“I would question who the holding midfielder would be. It wouldn’t be Fernandes.

“Guimaraes likes to play as a box to box. Kobbie could become a deep lying midfielder so that would be a good trio.”
