Man United forward holding ‘extra sessions’ with Ruud van Nistelrooy after worrying Premier League stat
One Manchester United forward is holding ‘extra sessions’ with Ruud van Nistelrooy after a worrying Premier League statistic.
Erik ten Hag’s side have had a mixed start to the new season. They won their opening Premier League game against Fulham but lost 2-1 against Brighton on Saturday.
Many have been frustrated with the misfiring forward line, which has failed to look clinical when the team have created attacking opportunities.
Manchester United assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has been working closely with Marcus Rashford to improve his finishing in training, according to The Sun.
Van Nistelrooy, who returned to the club this summer as one of Ten Hag’s assistants, is conducting one-on-one sessions with Rashford to help him regain his scoring touch.
Rashford showed his potential in front of goal during Ten Hag’s first season, netting 30 goals throughout the 2022/23 campaign. But he has failed to recreate such goalscoring form since then.
The report adds that the former United striker has been staying late after regular training sessions to focus on various aspects of Rashford’s attacking play.
Special emphasis has been placed on improving Rashford’s awareness at the back post and his ability to make effective runs across the box.
This extra attention comes as United have missed the most big chances in the Premier League so far this season, with six missed in just two games.
While none of these missed chances have been from Rashford, he has struggled to get into goalscoring positions regularly. He did find the net against Brighton, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The report concluded that insiders say Rashford is fully embracing the additional training and is eager to refine his skills under Van Nistelrooy’s guidance.
Time will tell whether this will become beneficial for United, who need to find their form in the final third as soon as possible.
