Manchester United are eyeing a potential £40 million striker target after Rasmus Højlund suffered an injury blow during pre-season.

United were cursed by injuries last term, and it has already begun to have an effect in pre-season.

Both Højlund and Leny Yoro were forced off with issues during the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal last weekend.

It has since been confirmed that Yoro is set to miss around three months of action, while Højlund will be unavailable for six weeks.

While the Dane has shown great promise in a United shirt, scoring 16 goals in his debut campaign at the club, his injury record is beginning to be a slight concern.

According to the Telegraph, Erik ten Hag would like to sign another attacker after Hojlund’s injury left new signing Joshua Zirkzee as their only available striker.

It was further claimed that Brentford forward Ivan Toney is an option being considered at Old Trafford.

Prior reports have claimed that United would not consider the England international unless his price tag came below £40 million.

Brentford were asking for more than that earlier in the window but will be wary about losing out on the player for free next summer if he ends up staying.

Toney has scored 36 goals and registered 11 assists in 85 Premier League games.
