Man United considering free agent signing as “golden opportunity” opens up for sale
Manchester United are considering a free agent signing as a “golden opportunity” opens up for a potential player sale.
Despite the English transfer window concluding, with the Reds signing five players for Erik ten Hag’s first-team, other country’s windows are still open.
United and other clubs can still access the free agent market, and the latest reports suggest that the INEOS-led side could be involved in more business.
According to Dutch outlet TransferWatch, Ajax are trying to make a last-gasp attempt to sign Christian Eriksen from Manchester United before the end of their transfer window on Monday evening.
It was explained that the Eredivisie side believes signing the Dane is a golden opportunity and have been in frequent contact with the player.
However, the report added that the financial demands from United are making a potential deal difficult to complete.
Should an agreement be reached, TransferWatch added that United are looking at free agent Adrien Rabiot to replace Eriksen at Old Trafford.
There are a matter of hours left in the Dutch transfer window, which makes an agreement seem somewhat unlikely.
Also, reports from The Athletic claimed that interest in Rabiot from United this summer has been overstated and not similar to previous transfer windows where there was a genuine interest.
Of course, that could have changed if the club had an opportunity to move on Eriksen, with limited interest in the 32-year-old all summer long.
The Dane is not expected to play a major part in Ten Hag’s plans this season, with 20-year-old Toby Collyer coming on for Casemiro at half-time against Liverpool instead of him.
Instead, the midfielder was subbed on for Joshua Zirkzee in the dying minutes of the game once United were already 3-0 down and with no chance of a comeback.
Eriksen himself has recently spoken about getting more game-time, and this potential move seems like it would be very attractive to him.
