There has been another twist in the transfer saga involving Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo as interest increases in Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.
Manchester United are still actively pursuing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with talks ongoing for over a month as the club aims to secure its third summer signing, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
Ruben Amorim remains determined to bolster his attacking options, but negotiations with Brentford have been progressing slowly.
United’s initial offer in early June—£45 million plus £10 million in add-ons—was rejected, as was a second proposal of £55 million with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related bonuses.
The club has taken a measured approach in discussions, reluctant to meet Brentford’s full valuation and the latest reports have cast doubt over a potential agreement.
Major Mbeumo twist as Brenford prepared to accept less for Wissa
Not only are United reluctant to meet Brentford’s new asking price, but there is also increasing interest in his strike-partner Yoane Wissa.
Wissa, 28, was recently linked with Tottenham Hotspur and now reliable reports have revealed that Newcastle are interested after pulling out of a deal for Hugo Ekitike.
It has been well reported that Brentford are unwilling to sell both players this summer and a fresh report has provided another twist in the story.
According to The Standard, Newcastle currently value Wissa between £30-35 million while Brentford’s preferred price tag is nearer £50 million.
However, it was explained that Brentford are willing to accept a lower offer than their valuation if the payment terms in a deal for Wissa are favourable.
That could make a deal for Newcastle more attractive and if that occurs, it would leave United with little chance of signing Mbeumo, their no.1 target.
United need to make their decision quickly
Time is passing, other clubs are doing tons of business and United must make their decision soon. Either push forward for Mbeumo or look elsewhere.
They have already spent over six weeks working on this deal and it cannot last much longer, as Amorim needs players to come in this summer.
United do not want to be pressured into meeting the £70 million demands from Brentford but the main sticking point still seems to be their upfront fee.
United’s latest offer only guaranteed Brentford £55 million for the forward, with another £7.5 million in add-ons. It is clear that the Bees do not want so much in terms of add-ons.
A bid worth an initial £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons is only £2.5 million more than the previous offer, but a much more favourable bid in Brentford’s eyes.
No matter their decision, United must start moving quicker otherwise they will miss out on targets this summer.
