Luke Shaw’s truthful one-word response to Man Utd injury setback speaks volumes about defender’s situation
Luke Shaw has suffered yet another injury setback for Manchester United ahead of their Premier League clash against Arsenal.
Manchester United travel to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening to face second-placed Arsenal in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim will be hoping to cause an upset in his fourth game in charge at Old Trafford, coming off the back of a 4-0 win against Everton on the weekend.
He did receive some setbacks in that game, however, with Lisandro Martínez and Kobbie Mainoo both receiving their fifth bookings of the season – which leaves them suspended for the Arsenal clash.
With the options in midfield and Luke Shaw being back in the squad, neither absence seemed too detrimental to United’s chances in the game.
However, Shaw has now suffered yet another injury setback that does not only impact the team this week, but also his future under Amorim.
X account AmorimBalll_ has revealed that the left-back is injured again and has not travelled to London to face the Gunners.
Shaw only returned to action a couple of weeks ago after missing the first few months of the season. He made himself fit for England in the summer before getting injured in pre-season.
He made his first appearance for United since February against Ipswich Town on 24 November but this injury setback seems significant.
After being handled extremely carefully in his reintegration to the team, Shaw is out once again and United Scout claims that the defender is said to be described as ‘broken’ regarding his body.
It was added that there are further tests expected to take place but club sources say it is ‘no surprise’ that he has suffered another injury.
Broken is the sad but truthful reality about Shaw’s situation at Old Trafford. He has consistently been able to show his quality when he gets onto the pitch but it is now simply a matter of his body being too weak for the level of the Premier League.
Shaw’s injury history stretches all the way back to his early years at United and it was in September 2015 where he suffered the most critical setback in his career against PSV Eindhoven, where he suffered a double fracture of his right leg after a horrible tackle.
United will need to address that left-hand side in the upcoming transfer windows, with there also being clear concerns over Tyrell Malacia’s long-term role after his own injury problems.
