Luke Shaw reveals what was said in aftermath of Man United vs Crystal Palace brawl before Casemiro red card
Luke Shaw has discussed what was said amongst players before Casemiro was sent off in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.
A second-half brawl took place whilst United were 2-0 up after Antony was pushed into the advertising boards on the edge of the pitch.
Casemiro was dismissed after VAR saw him with his hands around Will Hughes’s neck.
“To be honest, there were so many people there so I didn’t actually know what was going on,” Luke Shaw told club media when asked about the situation.
“I think a lot of the players on the pitch were talking about who it (the red card) was for and someone obviously mentioned Case.
“I think always everyone knows when the referee goes over to the monitor it isn’t good.”
United were able to fight through the remaining stages of the game to get a vital three points. They are now six points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes scored the goals but now United will be without their crucial holding midfielder for three league fixtures.
United play Leeds home and away before facing Leicester City at home. Casemiro will return for the Europa League knockout games against Barcelona before the Carabao Cup final.
Although the Brazilian will be a miss, Shaw believes that is the chance for others in the squad to step up.
“We’re extremely disappointed to lose him,” added the left-back. “But now it’s a big opportunity for someone else to come in and make their mark on this team, show their qualities and why they’re here.”
Ten Hag was also disappointed that his no.18 was the only player punished for a brawl that involved both teams.
“I’ve seen the incident, after the player of Crystal Palace takes a big risk to bring an injury to Antony,” he told MUTV. “Then emotions get high with several players but they [only] pick one player out.”
