Luis Enrique has spoken out about why Manuel Ugarte’s move to Manchester United is happening after Fabrizio Romano provided the latest on his transfer.

Manuel Ugarte looks certain to join Manchester United as Erik ten Hag‘s club and Paris St. Germain head towards an agreement for the player.

Although the terms of the deal are not quite finalised, many reports have explained that United may sign the 23-year-old on an initial loan with an obligation to buy. However, they do not want to pay the £51 million the Ligue 1 outfit demands, which is a sticking point.

Ugarte has not been part of PSG’s recent training sessions and has been left out of the club’s last two squads. By all accounts, he will be a United player by the time the team line up to face Liverpool next weekend.

United have been crying out for a new midfielder all summer, and although Casemiro has not departed as expected, Ugarte will add a much-needed robustness and fight to the middle of the park.

Ugarte’s move has been fueled by the fact that current PSG boss Luis Enrique does not see the Uguruay international as part of his plans. In his recent press conference, he referenced this, explaining that this is why Ugarte will leave Paris.

As quoted by Le Figaro, Enrique confirmed that PSG plan to “let go of those we no longer count on,” with Ugarte being one of these.

Further, he explained that no more signings are expected at the Parc des Princes. “I am always open to improving the squad, but it is very, very difficult to strengthen the team that we have,” he said.

With Ugarte leaving, PSG signed Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves from Benfica. Enrique’s words came after Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the Ugarte transfer.

“The club-to-club agreement is very close,” Romano told GiveMeSport. “They’re working on the deal structure, on the payment terms, all these kinds of details.

“And then, Manuel Ugarte is fully expected to join Manchester United. So I think this deal is going to happen. There is still something to do, but it is very, very close.”
