Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer expert Luis Campos is reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to join Manchester United in the coming months.
Manchester United have a new-look hierarchy leading the club forward under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who ripped apart the old regime when he became the co-owner at Old Trafford.
The current team is led by Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, although there was one major issue when Dan Ashworth departed the club just months after joining.
Ratcliffe described Ashworth as a “ten out of ten sporting director” while he was at Newcastle but eventually decided that things were not working out with the former FA chief in charge.
Wilcox has since taken on the majority of Ashworth’s responsibilities and it has not been clear whether United will aim to replace the 54-year-old with a new addition.
Luis Campos to United: Latest details
The latest reports from France suggest that United could be about to make a major move for Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer chief Luis Campos.
Known as one of the best sporting directors in Europe, Campos is not expected to sign a new deal at the French giants and United are trying to take advantage of that.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, the Portuguese chief is now in ‘advanced talks’ with those at Old Trafford to become their new sporting director.
Campos made his name as the sporting director at Monaco, where he helped sign players like Anthony Martial, Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar. He then moved to Lille in 2020 before joining PSG two years later.
There are strong arguments that Campos has been at the heart of the rebuild at the Parc des Princes which has saw the French side turn from signing superstar names in a dysfunctional team to making a well-oiled machine that are favourites to win the Champions League.
That is the exact kind of change that United have been undergoing under INEOS and it seems like Campos would be a huge addition to the club.
Ratcliffe would leave Ashworth complaints behind with Campos appointment
United fans are understandably excited about the prospect of such an appointment as Campos is one of the best in the business at what he does.
The existing team at Old Trafford have shown some good signs so far in the limited time they’ve had in charge and this would only strengthen that unit.
Ratcliffe has received a lot of heat and criticism for some of his decisions at the club, with the Ashworth situation being one of the main things spoken about.
But if the British billionaire is able to convince Campos to move to United and help rebuild the club, there won’t be many people mentioning Ashworth.
It is important to remember that this is just one report so far, and more information on Campos’ future is expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
