Lucien Agoume’s transfer stance revealed as £35m Manchester United target makes ‘preference’ clear

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume as a potential midfield signing this summer.

Manchester United are entering the final stretch of their summer transfer business, with Ruben Amorim still aiming to strengthen his squad.

So far, the club have added Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, Bryan Mbeumo and most recently striker Benjamin Šeško to their ranks.

The quartet of signings has set United back around £214 million, with Leon being the only arrival to cost less than £60 million. Amorim remains intent on bolstering both midfield and the goalkeeping department.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba had been his preferred midfield target, but the 21-year-old will not be available this summer. United have therefore decided to pause their pursuit until next year and are now shifting their focus toward alternative options.

Agoume’s transfer stance revealed amid United interest

According to report reports from Spain, the Reds are interested in signing Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume this summer as a potential Baleba alternative.

The midfielder has a £35 million release clause in his contract although some reports suggest he could be sold for even cheaper than that price.

It was previously explained by Football Transfers that the 23-year-old is open to a transfer this summer despite only joining the La Liga side from Inter Milan last year.

TeamTalk have added that the player’s preference is a move to the Premier League. Arsenal have also been linked with him previously but have since signed Martin Zubimendi.

Agoume would fit what United need

Amorim considered Baleba as the perfect midfield signing this summer and while that doesn’t look likely to materialise, the Reds are keen to re-enter negotiations next summer for him.

Their chances of signing him would be lower if they spend £60 million on a player like Morten Hjulmand now.

Agoume represents an upgrade on United’s current options in midfield while not costing excessive amounts, which is the type of midfield signing the club should be looking at in the final weeks of the window.

It remains to be seen whether it is a deal that the Reds will push for in the next weeks, with English media yet to report on United’s interest.
