Louis Saha says two Manchester United players “don’t have the desire and fight” to help Ruben Amorim’s rebuild

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has suggested that two players should be sold as they “don’t have the desire and fight” to help with the rebuild under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United have just finished one of their most underwhelming seasons in decades, making it clear that major changes are needed at Old Trafford.

The club must prioritise bringing in top-quality players like Matheus Cunha, while also offloading several squad members who no longer contribute effectively.

Ruben Amorim will be expected to quickly adjust his tactics to the challenges of Premier League football after a tough start to his tenure in England.

Many consider this summer’s transfer window to be one of the most critical in recent history — a chance to lay the foundation for meaningful progress if the right choices are made.

Saha says United duo don’t have desire to help rebuild

There are likely going to be some unpopular decisions this summer and that seems to begin with the likely sale of Alejandro Garnacho, who was reportedly told by Amorim that he can leave the club.

Garnacho has been a fan-favourite since his emergence into the first-team squad but there have been several incidents under both Amorim and Erik ten Hag, particularly surrounding his social media activity.

Meanwhile, another Academy graduate set to depart Old Trafford is Marcus Rashford after he spent the back-end of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Ex-United striker Louis Saha believes that both players will leave and also mentioned that he doesn’t think they have the right desire to help the rebuild at the club.

While the Frenchman did say that their problems could stem from a ‘broken relationship’ with the club, he also criticised their ego and those who are around them. There have been a lot of stories and drama caused by the brothers and agents of both Rashford and Garnacho.

“I think the problem is that some players just don’t have the level of desire and fight needed to get United back to where they used to be, and I can see Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho being sent on their way,” Saha told 10bet.

“But let’s be clear. It’s easy for me to look at younger players and claim the problem is with their generation, but sometimes it’s just that the communication is broken between a club and a player. Sometimes it becomes a personal problem, where the relationship doesn’t’ work.

“At the same time, now isn’t the time for ego or personal problems. If you have the right people around you, they should be advising you not to let it affect you like this, and whatever age you are, maybe they should tell you to shut up for a bit, and get your head together.”

United need to sign specific profile

While there is certainly a need to back the head coach and also start fresh with new players, United are also losing an important part of their game with the sales of Rashford and Garnacho.

Both players are the only ones in the United squad right now who can threaten with runs in behind. Amad is excelling on the right but doesn’t have the same level of pace.

Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee prefer the ball to feet while Cunha, who is expected to join this summer, also would rather run with the ball than without it.

While Amorim’s system does not necessarily suit flying wingers so much, there needs to be some sort of adjustment for such a player to be in the attack. It’s much easier for Premier League teams to defend if they don’t have to worry about what’s happening behind them.

Perhaps Amorim wants to get that kind of pace from a new striker but it has to be in the squad with those two departures looking likely.
