Louis Saha predicts Ruben Amorim’s best XI, excluding two Man Utd fan favourites
Louis Saha has predicted what Ruben Amorim’s best Manchester United XI could look like and he excluded two fan-favourites in the team.
Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United as the club’s new head coach at the beginning of the week and will face Ipswich Town in his first game next weekend.
The 39-year-old will start working on the Carrington training pitch soon but will be without his full squad until later next week due to the international break.
Despite this, he is still planning on introducing the 3-4-3 system which helped him get so much success in Portugal at Sporting.
Some players are expected to flourish in the new set-up while others seem to have uncertain futures as things stand.
Louis Saha predicts Amorim’s best Man Utd XI
Former United striker Louis Saha has predicted what he thinks Amorim’s best team will be at Old Trafford this season in the new formation.
Speaking to BoyleSports, he said: “Andre Onana; Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez; Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Mazraoui; Garnacho, Hojlund, Rashford.”
Further explaining his selections, Saha added: “At the back I’m a big fan of Leny Yoro, he is a confident young player who has a lot to offer the team. He is a real star and I’m very confident about that. He also needs leaders to help him progress and I think Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez can provide that.
“Harry Maguire is another option, but I don’t expect to see Jonny Evans or Victor Lindelof. If he plays two in midfield, it is a very important position. Kobbie Mainoo is very good on the ball but you also need players who have power in there, you need to find that balance.
“Mainoo has quality but he needs to be given a more creative role. I could see Manuel Ugarte there in some games because he is what teams need at times, a monster in midfield.
“Out wide would be Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, they have shown plenty of versatility and ability to think quickly and bring the wingers into play. They even at times drift into the middle of the pitch to provide another option.
“I can see Rasmus Hojlund up front but he needs to improve, plus Marcus Rashford. I’m also a huge fan of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho so it’s very hard to choose between them. It will be a case of who impresses Ruben Amorim the most in training.”
Mainoo and Amad left out of Saha’s team
Mainoo was left out of Saha’s team, with the former striker suggesting that he needs a ‘more creative role’ in the side, rather than being in the midfield pivot.
This opinion has gained some support after Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte’s recent performances together.
Yet, it seems that people are forgetting what Mainoo can offer United in the engine room, especially in a well-functioning unit.
He should definitely not be overplayed by the new boss, but Mainoo will certainly be looking to prove once again to people how good he is under Amorim once he is back from injury.
Meanwhile, Amad was also pipped in the Premier League winner’s side despite his form this term, although he did admit it was a ‘very hard’ choice between him and Garnacho.
