“Lots of late calls…” Omar Berrada issues Manchester United transfer update after meetings held for Benjamin Šeško

Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has issued an update on the club’s current transfer situation, as meetings have been held ahead of a potential transfer for Benjamin Šeško.

As the Premier League Summer Series comes to a close, Ruben Amorim’s preparation for his first full season at Old Trafford is well underway, and Manchester United remain busy in the transfer market, still chasing several priority targets.

Strengthening the attack has been a key focus for Amorim, and the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo signal that his vision is starting to take form.

With the transfer window entering its final month, United continue to seek an experienced centre-forward, a goalkeeper to compete with André Onana, and a defensive midfielder to partner captain Bruno Fernandes.

Benjamin Šeško has emerged as the club’s main striker target, as United battle with Newcastle to secure the signature of the highly coveted 22-year-old Slovenian forward. The club held talks with RB Leipzig over Šeško over the weekend.

Berrada issues transfer update

Speaking ahead of United’s final Premier League Summer Series game against Everton, Omar Berrada opened up on the club’s current transfer business.

“We have to do a lot of multitasking. We have a team back home led by [director of football] Jason [Wilcox], the recruitment team, that is working around the clock to ensure that we continue to find opportunities to strengthen our squad.

“There are lots of late calls and early morning meetings to make sure that we stay on top of it.‘What we want to do is to win and to start winning titles as soon as possible.

“Of course, adding players helps. We have seen the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. They have adapted really well.

“We are going to see Bryan play for the first time [vs Everton], Matheus has already shown his quality and Diego has shown that he is adapting very quickly having just come from Paraguay, so all of the signs are positive and we are cautiously optimistic. We hope we are going to have a great season.”

Everton performance indicates need for more signings

It was clear to see that the priority going into this transfer window was to completely transform the attacking power of a team that scored just 44 Premier League goals in the previous campaign.

While the club have certainly worked to address that, signing both Cunha and Mbeumo, as well as actively targeting Šeško, United’s 2-2 draw against Everton in the final match of the Summer Series showed that some positions need to be addressed.

There have been rumours that United could also be in the market for a midfielder this summer, and with Manuel Ugarte putting in a performance that can only be described as “shocking”, that signing may have risen in the priority list of transfers this summer.

While it will be unlikely that any new signings would be signed and ready to feature in their last pre-season game when United host Fiorentina at Old Trafford on the 9th of August, Amorim will want any potential new player in his squad as soon as possible, ahead of his side’s first game of the Premier League season against Arsenal.
