One Liverpool legend cannot hide his “incredible excitement” about one Manchester United star who he believes will be key for Ruben Amorim.

Patrick Dorgu, 20, joined Manchester United in the January transfer window as an immediate reinforcement for the wingback positions under Ruben Amorim.

This season, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tyrell Malacia have all been deployed in the role but struggled to make an impact, highlighting the need for an upgrade.

Amad has been the only consistent performer on the flanks under Amorim, though the Ivorian has also excelled as a frontline option.

With his attacking mindset and ability to create danger in the final third, Dorgu appears to be the ideal addition to United’s squad and will be eager to make his mark.

Before his transfer, the Danish international made 23 appearances for Lecce this season, featuring in multiple positions, including left wingback and right wing.

Dorgu made his debut for the club in the FA Cup win over Leicester City but only played 45 minutes in that encounter. He is expected to start in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend.

Liverpool legend excited about United signing Dorgu

The Reds have not often made signings for players like Dorgu, who are young and exciting prospects but not the finished product. INEOS want to move towards this kind of player.

Speaking about the deal, Liverpool legend Jan Mølby could not hide his excitement about Dorgu’s move to United.

The 61-year-old Dane believes that the wingback will become a crucial player for Amorim in his 3-4-3 formation at Old Trafford.

“We have to take off the hat for we have three Danes in one of the world’s biggest football clubs. It’s incredible, right?” Mølby told Tipsbladet.

“As a Dane, it is incredibly exciting with Dorgu in Manchester United. I really like his profile and the way Manchester United have started buying players.

“Dorgu has also played right in Lecce so he can play both seats. One of the most important things for Amorim has been to control these wingbacks, so Dorgu really gets a key role on this Manchester United team.”

The young signing certainly made a positive impression on his debut and many fans were confused to see him replaced early in the game.

It will also be interesting to see whether he is starting on the left or right flank on the weekend, since not many expected him to start on the right for his debut.
