Lisandro Martínez says Man Utd must improve in two glaring aspects after Bournemouth defeat
Lisandro Martínez has said that Manchester United have to improve in several aspects of their game after their most recent defeat.
Manchester United lost 3-0 against Bournemouth on Sunday in a dreadful afternoon at Old Trafford.
The Reds once again conceded an opener from a set-piece, an issue that Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff must urgently address.
Despite an overall solid performance, United lacked cutting edge in attack, and a clumsy challenge by Noussair Mazraoui early in the second half handed Bournemouth the opportunity to double their lead, which they capitalised on.
As has been a recurring problem, United crumbled shortly after conceding, with a third goal following just two minutes after the penalty.
Amorim’s side showed effort and determination but never truly threatened to score despite their high amount of shots taken in the game.
Lisandro Martinez highlights two Man Utd improvements needed
Lisandro Martínez addressed the media after the game and explained that while the Reds are playing well and not getting results, there are several areas that must improve.
The centre-back highlighted the poor set-piece defending from United, as well as the need to score first in these games.
“We are very disappointing. I think we are playing so well, we create many chances and unfortunately we couldn’t score,” he told club media.
“We have to adjust a few things, especially set-pieces. And I think we have to start the games by scoring the first goal.
“We are going to work on that, we have a great coach and a great group. This club, losing is unacceptable.”
Concerning stats for United prove Martínez right
United have now conceded 10 goals in the Premier League from set-pieces, only relegation-zone Wolves have conceded more.
Considering the Reds have conceded 22 goals overall in the league, this means that around 45% are coming from set-piece situations.
Meanwhile, Amorim’s side have also conceded the first goal in all of their last six games.
It is clear that these are two glaring issues for United and the new head coach will need to address them in the coming days and weeks.
Performances have been getting better but these small things are impacting United’s chances of winning games.
