Lisandro Martinez reveals what Wout Weghorst adds to Man United behind-the-scenes after Carabao Cup win vs Nottingham Forest

Lisandro Martinez praised Wout Weghorst and detailed what he’s adding to Manchester United behind the scenes after his first goal in the win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The Dutch striker scored in a 3-0 victory at The City Ground as United bring a comfortable lead to Old Trafford in the second leg next week.

After coming in as a stop-gap option up front on loan, Weghorst has made a positive impression so far at the club. He explained his desire to show his worth and convince the club to make the deal permanent earlier this week.

He has started every game since he joined the club and is proving to be a useful asset in Erik ten Hag’s system.

The striker is a model professional and Martinez, who won Man of the Match on the evening, was full of praise for his impact on the training field at Carrington.

“As a striker, he lives for the goals and I’m happy for him because he’s training very well as well,” Martinez told MUTV. “We need that confidence and I’m happy he scored today. Now we have to work for the next game – it’s not done yet.

“I think we showed many good things, but still, we have a lot to improve. It’s a good result, I think we controlled the game today. In training, we [Lindelof] work with each other and I think we’re doing a really good job.

“That’s the most important thing when you need a player, we have to be there, we have to be ready and Victor did very well. I think everyone is training hard, you can see now, the last two games were unlucky, we did an amazing job, but we have to keep going.”
