Lisandro Martínez made an honest admission following Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham which speaks volumes about the players.

Erik ten Hag’s side missed multiple clear scoring chances against West Ham, with Diogo Dalot’s open-goal squander being the most notable.

Struggling to handle West Ham’s pressure after half-time, Manchester United conceded a late goal in the second half.

Casemiro then equalised with a strong header, but West Ham claimed victory after a controversial penalty call by VAR referee Michael Oliver.

Lisandro Martínez’s honest admission after West Ham defeat

Lisandro Martínez put in one of his better performances of the campaign but was unable to come out on the winning side.

Speaking to club media after the game, the Argentine centre-back honestly admitted that he was ‘disappointed’ after the team’s level dropped in the second half of the game.

“I am so frustrated, honestly because our skills, our quality and in those days after the game, we miss [so] many chances, and it is difficult to accept it, but we have to. That is it,” he said.

“Be hungry, and today we played very well in the first half, but in the second half, we dropped [our levels]. We concede the two goals, and we couldn’t win the game. I am so disappointed today, honestly.”

“Now it is time to accept and be honest with ourselves and keep moving.

“I want the best for this club. I am pretty sure that this club will be in the top [places]. We will give everything to put this club where it deserves [to be].”

United cannot deal with adversity

Usually it’s an opposition’s goal, but sometimes it’s failing to take their own chances. When things start going wrong for this United team they fall apart time and time again.

Every top team goes through phases where they might miss some glaring chances in one half of football, but they will continue that pressure.

Instead, once United were unable to score in the first-half at the London Stadium, the players looked like they accepted it wasn’t their day. The second half performance against a poor West Ham team was disgraceful.

While we can all complain about the missed chances in the first half, games of football are played across 90 minutes and Ten Hag’s team have rarely proven themself across that time period in games since he took charge.
