Liam Delap has recently addressed the transfer speculation surrounding him as Manchester United have reportedly made him a priority signing.
Ruben Amorim’s top priority for the upcoming summer transfer window at Manchester United is to bring in a prolific striker.
This season has highlighted the inadequacies of the current forward options at Old Trafford, who have struggled to consistently deliver across the campaign.
Rasmus Højlund has managed just three Premier League goals, with Joshua Zirkzee matching that tally. Neither player appears ready to lead the line for a team with serious ambitions.
To address this problem, United have been linked with several strikers, including Victor Osimhen, Liam Delap and Viktor Gyökeres.
United make Delap no.1 priority in summer window
According to the latest reports, the Reds have now decided that Delap is their priority target ahead of the other options identified.
The Ipswich Town striker has a £40 million release clause should the Tractor Boys face relegation from the Premier League this season – which seems very likely after their 2-1 defeat to Wolves on the weekend.
While the 22-year-old’s former club Manchester City have a buyback for the player, the report added that they are unlikely to trigger that clause after extending Erling Haaland’s contract and signing Omar Marmoush in January.
United will face competition from other Premier League clubs, with Chelsea and Liverpool among the interested teams mentioned, however it seems clear that Delap is the man those at Old Trafford want.
Delap says he’s “very good” at ignoring transfer speculation
With 12 goals in the Premier League for a struggling Ipswich side, it was inevitable that transfer speculation would arise about Delap’s future.
The young striker was asked about the rumours in a recent interview with the East Anglian Daily Times, where he explained that he is “very good” at ignoring the media noise around his name.
“It’s engrained in us as footballers,” he explained when asked how he stays focused on the football amid transfer speculation. “It’s so important, especially for me, to focus on where I’m at now.
“I’m so happy here, I’m enjoying it so much here. I just look forward to playing football. I take every game as it comes and focus on the next.
“It [the media speculation] is something that I try and stay away from. People around me have told me to stay away from it, it’s something that I’m very good at in focusing on what I want to do. That’s playing football here.
“I’m really enjoying my time here and I enjoy playing every week. That’s the most important thing.”

Despite those comments, Delap will certainly not be planning to play in the Championship next season but it remains to be seen where he will end up when the 2025/26 campaign kicks off.
