Leny Yoro has received immense praise from a Manchester United legend this week after his strong start to the season.
Manchester United opened the new Premier League campaign with a defeat to Arsenal, though there were encouraging signs despite the result.
They followed that up with an away draw against Fulham before securing their first league victory of the season against Burnley.
A standout across all three fixtures has been Leny Yoro, who delivered impressive performances on the right side of the defence.
Yoro has steadily been improving his game since he joined the club from Lille last summer and he now seems like one of Ruben Amorim’s most important players.
Yoro receives immense praise from United legend
Rio Ferdinand has praised Yoro regularly in the past and even had a role in convincing the Frenchman to make the move to Old Trafford.
The United legend has once again spoken highly of the 19-year-old defender this week in an interview with Andy Mitten for United We Stand.
“Leny Yoro’s got pace, going to get more time,” said Ferdinand. “Yeah, I love him. I think his ceiling, I don’t know where his ceiling, how high, [it] could be anything.
“He just needs the pieces around him as well to help him as a young kid, but I think he has the nucleus of all the right traits to be a top centre-half and he will be because he wants to be.
“He’s a hard worker. He’s diligent, but he needs time as well.”
Yoro’s role could change under Amorim again
Yoro has been excelling on the right side of the back three so far this season but his role could be adjusted soon after the return of Noussair Mazraoui.
Last season, Yoro flourished on the left side of the back three and he could return to that side of the defence soon to allow Amorim the space to fit Mazraoui into the team.
Many would consider a back three of Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Mazraoui as United’s strongest.
Yoro carries the ball up the pitch comfortably on the left, and doesn’t seem impacted by the different passing angles from that side.
For a long while, the youngster has looked strong on both sides and he’s developing his game in the right way.
