“Leading the chase…” Rodrygo to Man Utd transfer truth explained as Real Madrid’s asking fee revealed

There has been an explosion of transfer rumours swirling around Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer amid a reported desire to leave, with Manchester United fans on alert.

Manchester United are looking to add attacking prowess to their front line this summer amid Rúben Amorim’s need for goals.

The club’s top scorer this season is Bruno Fernandes, on 17 strikes, while Alejandro Garnacho is the only other United player to hit at least ten goals this campaign, with forwards Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling at points and star winger Amad out for months due to injury.

In the summer window, the club want to add attacking talent both in the striker and wide positions, with the club closing in on a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matheus Cunha for a £62.5 million fee.

However, the club do not want to end their attacking reinforcements there, with other players being targeted.

Why does Rodrygo want to leave Real Madrid?

In the last few days, there has been an explosion of rumours surrounding Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who has been integral to their success over the last seven seasons.

According to the Spanish outlet Radio Marca, the 24-year-old wants to part ways with Los Blancos because he no longer believes he has a spot among the club’s top stars, such as Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Kylian Mbappe.

The Brazilian is said to believe that the offensive dynamic is “individualistic,” and as he is a collective-oriented player, he no longer feels at home at the club.

Rodrygo believes he does not get the appreciation he feels he deserves at Real Madrid, with much of the focus on the aforementioned other three.

Rodrygo to United transfer truth

With Rodrygo reportedly open to finding a new challenge this summer, the winger would be a brilliant fit in the right pocket of Amorim’s front three.

According to The Sun, of the Premier League clubs who would consider signing him, United are the side who are “leading the chase” for the player who earns around £198,000 per week at Madrid.

As for his transfer fee, he signed for Los Blancos from Brazilian side Santos for a £38 million fee back in 2018. If he were to leave the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this summer, they would demand a fee of £85 million.

Considering United’s tight finances and the money they are about to commit to bringing Cunha to Old Trafford, this may be too far out of reach for Amorim’s side to pull off amid the need for midfield and defensive reinforcement, too.
