“Last few hours…” – Manchester United reignite interest in £45m striker aiming for redemption

Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in a £45 million-rated striker as they consider bringing him back to the Premier League.

Manchester United are in search of new attacking players to join the squad this summer. Last season, United achieved their lowest ever Premier League finish, and one of the main reasons for this was the lack of goals.

Ruben Amorim has already decided, but several attackers currently at the club have no place in his United rebuild. Amongst these departures are England internationals Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have both attracted interest from a number of suitors across Europe in the last few weeks.

Unlike the previously mentioned attackers, strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both seem set to remain at the club next season. However, both players experienced disappointing 24/25 campaigns, and it seems likely that more attackers will be needed to supplement their lack of goals.

So far this summer, United have signed Wolves winger Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million, but the Club is still on the hunt for an out-and-out striker to lead the line next season.

United reignite interest in Kean

Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy have indicated that Manchester United are looking at signing Fiorentina striker Moise Kean “more than before”. This news came in Sunday’s Gazzetta dello Sport Paper and indicated that the increase in interest has come in “the last few hours”.

Kean currently has a release clause of £44.5 million, which may make him a cheaper deal for United to accomplish than striking alternatives Victor Gyokeres or Victor Osimhen.

United are not alone in their pursuit of Kean, as Saudi side Al-Qadsiah are said to be ready to pay Kean’s release clause. However, it appears Kean is reluctant to take up this Saudi offer due to the upcoming 2026 World Cup and his belief that it would hinder his chances of being called up by the Italian national team.

However, United will still need to convince the 25-year-old, as reports from earlier in the month indicated Kean was hesitant on a move to United due to the lack of European football when Fiorentina had a place in next season’s Europa Conference League.

One boost for United is that Fiorentina’s manager Raffaele Palladino, who led the club to European qualification last season and who helped Kean to the best form of his career, left the club at the end of May. It is currently unclear what Kean’s place at the club would be next season under Palladino’s replacement, Stefano Pioli.

Kean’s Premier League redemption

While Kean may be hesitant to join United due to a lack of European football, United may be equally cautious about the transfer due to Kean’s previous record in the Premier League.

In the only full season he spent at Everton, Kean registered two goals and two assists in 29 League appearances. This season, Zirkzee and Hojlund both achieved only four league goal involvements, meaning Kean’s previous Premier League record is no better than the players he’s attempting to replace.

Kean’s time in Italy was also plagued by inconsistency. His second spell at Juventus saw him register a lacklustre 12 goal involvements in 79 League appearances, but his most recent season at Fiorentina saw him smash his Juventus tally with 21 goals in 31 appearances.

It is unclear whether this most recent season is evidence of Kean reaching the potential that Juventus, PSG and Everton saw but that those clubs failed to nurture or if he was very well suited to the Fiorentina set up.

This season will have changed lots of people in Italy’s opinion of Kean, and he may believe another attempt at proving himself as a Premier League worthy striker would rehabilitate his image in England and put him in contention for a starting place in Italy’s World Cup squad.
