Kobbie Mainoo’s new Man United wage revealed as Euro 2024 ambitions outlined
Kobbie Mainoo is close to agreeing a new contract at Manchester United and will complete the deal after Euro 2024.
Mainoo, 19, had an excellent breakthrough campaign at United. He ended the 2023/24 season by scoring the winning goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
He was also named as the Man of the Match at Wembley – not for the first time this season – as Erik ten Hag’s men secured their second trophy in as many seasons.
The excellent progression and newly-found importance within the first-team squad at Old Trafford has led the club to hold negotiations with Mainoo over a new and improved contract.
After signing a long-term deal in February last year, Mainoo has since activated various clauses to maximise his wage packet.
Now, according to the Daily Star, club bosses want to secure the midfielder’s long-term future with a contract that will see his wages quadruple to £80,000-a-week.
It was added that Mainoo has agreed to the offer in principle but wants to put negotiations on hold until after the European Championships this summer.
The 19-year-old has been included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for the competition and is likely to make the final England selection.
Delaying negotiations shows that the young player knows how to prioritise in different situations, and that has undoubtedly helped him since his emergence into the United first-team.
In his only start for the Three Lions earlier this year, Mainoo was given England’s Man of the Match award after starring in a 2-2 draw against Belgium.
Speaking during that March camp, the United starlet said: “That’s the end goal for the season, to get into that squad. I’ve got to focus on club football in the meantime, and hopefully that will all figure itself out.”
