Kobbie Mainoo sends Man United fans 5-word message after Alejandro Garnacho joke
Kobbie Mainoo made his full Premier League debut against Everton on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United won 3-0.
The teenage midfielder was placed at the base of Erik ten Hag’s engine room and performed excellently, earning praise from the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Roy Keane after the game.
“Great game – for me, man of the match, a great performance and secure on the ball and never puts a foot wrong,” said Bruno of his young teammate to BBC Match of the Day.
“He is always ready to help, for his age he has too much quality. He sees the play before and did so many good things today, he was secure on the ball.”
Mainoo completed 34 passes and won five of his eight duels in the game.
The teenager took to Instagram following the game, saying: “First Premier League start and a big 3 points, can’t ask for much more…”
Mainoo added a message to the fans as well. “Thanks for the support Reds,” he wrote.
Many have been eagerly anticipating Mainoo’s involvement in the first team since he suffered injury during pre-season. He certainly did not disappoint.
The midfielder will now certainly be in contention for a place in the team against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
He was not the only teenager to impress on Sunday, as Alejandro Garnacho scored a stunning overhead kick goal which Gary Neville described as the ‘best ever’.
Yet, Mainoo was also in the mood to poke fun at his academy teammate, who he won the FA Youth Cup with.
The England U19s international simply posted a zoomed-in image of Garnacho on his Instagram with no added context, which United fans also loved.
