Kobbie Mainoo ‘delighted’ with key Man United decision as he becomes Dan Ashworth‘s ‘priority’
Kobbie Mainoo was ‘delighted’ with one key Manchester United decision as a new contract will be discussed when the teenager returns to Carrington.
Mainoo, 19, had an incredible breakthrough season with United last term. He made his debut in November against Everton and quickly became one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players.
The midfielder would go on to score in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, a game in which he won the Man of the Match.
Now, the 19-year-old star is excelling for England at Euro 2024. He became the country’s youngest-ever player to start a competitive semi-final earlier this week. Before Ollie Watkins stole the show with a late winner, Mainoo was the Man of the Match in the game.
Of course, the teenager will soon return to Carrington after the final against Spain and his holidays and United are keen to get him tied down to another long-term deal.
It has been reported by Graeme Bailey of HITC that sporting director Dan Ashworth has made an extended contract for Mainoo a priority in the coming months. His current deal expires in 2026.
The report further explained that the teenager, who has excelled with England at Euro 2024, wanted to understand the future of Erik ten Hag before he signed.
Of course, since then, it has been confirmed that the Dutch manager will remain at the club, something that was said to make Mainoo and his representatives ‘delighted’ – the midfielder has huge respect for the manager.
It is believed that Ashworth wants to accelerate contract talks with the 19-year-old once he returns from Germany.
The club are ‘anxious’ to reward the player with a new contract that reflects his progress and new standing as one of the best young players in England.
