Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez have Premier League concern for Ruben Amorim’s first games
Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez will both have to be careful in the Premier League as Ruben Amorim’s first games as Manchester United head coach approach.
Ruben Amorim is gearing up for his debut as Manchester United head coach, with the Reds set to take on Ipswich Town this Sunday afternoon.
Although the 39-year-old officially started his role nearly two weeks ago, he only began working with the squad on the training pitch earlier this week.
United are currently 13th in the Premier League standings but remain just four points adrift of the top four.
Amorim has a busy fixture list ahead, providing ample opportunities to enhance the team’s performances and climb the table.
Mainoo and Martínez suspension concern
Both Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez have each picked up four yellow cards in the Premier League so far this season.
One-game suspensions are handed out to any players who receive five bookings in the first 19 fixtures of the season.
This means that both players are almost certain to miss one league game in this extremely busy winter fixture list, with 10 more games until the threshold is adjusted.
After the first half of the season, it is changed that if a player reaches 10 yellow cards before the 32nd matchday, they would receive a further two-game ban.
Martínez also might feel slightly fortunate that he hasn’t been waiting on the sidelines already, with two VAR decisions for red cards going in his favour.
The Argentine’s fitness levels are currently unknown after he needed to pull out of international duty, while Mainoo is also recovering from injury.
Amorim will likely need to be without them both in a Premier League game soon anyway.
Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot have both also received three bookings each so far this season, while the rest of the squad is slightly further away from any possible suspension.
