Juventus are now set to be preparing a £59m offer for one of Manchester United’s prime targets this summer, with the Reds now highly unlikely to land a deal for a player who was once top of their list for strikers this summer.
Manchester United have done well in the window so far, with a deal for Matheus Cunha over the line and negotiations ongoing to sign Bryan Mbeumo, but they have been dealt a blow in pursuit of their prime striker target, Viktor Gyökeres.
Juventus are now set to further add salt into the wounds in United’s hopes to land the player, as they are now reportedly preparing a huge formal offer to try and get the deal over the line.
This comes after significant interest from Arsenal became made known to the public in recent days, with Gyökeres himself also said to be prioritising a move to London to play for the Gunners, as opposed to signing for Manchester United.
It’s a major blow for Ruben Amorim’s side, as the striker market this summer is very low in terms of concrete options, especially as experienced as this player.
Juventus to bid for Gyokeres
According to Corielle dello Sport, United’s pursuit of Gyokeres has now hit a further hitch, with Juventus now preparing an offer worth £59 million.
This is the fee Sporting CP president Frederico Verandas made clear the player would not leave for, but it’s a good starting point for an opening bid for the Swedish international.
Manchester United are reportedly close to being out of the race for Gyokeres, with Arsenal being his top priority. The player has yet to formally decline United’s offer, but he is waiting for Arsenal’s decision on whether they want him or Benjamin Sesko.
Amorim is a huge fan of Gyokeres, having had a season and a half to work with the Swedish striker, but that relationship is now unlikely to work in the United manager’s favour.
United could turn their attention to another Victor, in the form of Victor Osimhen, but the financials of a deal are a big issue for the club at the moment, particularly with the Nigerian’s wage demands.
United must break the bank for Osimhen
If Gyokeres does not want to come to United, break the bank for Osimhen. Signing the Nigerian international changes the fortunes of United almost immediately and ensures they have one of the best strikers on the planet in their team for the rebuild.
Osimhen’s wages will be huge, but they are worthwhile for a player who could elevate United from a position like 15th in the league to being one of the most feared sides and attacking forces in all of Europe.
The Napoli striker turned down a move to Al Hilal in recent days and, at the moment, appears set to join Galatasaray; however, things could change if United make their interest more concrete and pronounced. The forward is a much better option than Gyokeres.
An interesting couple of days ahead for Manchester United, but it’s unlikely to climax in the Swedish striker signing on the dotted line at Old Trafford.
