Jurgen Klopp set to block £66m “explosive” star from Manchester United summer transfer
According to a new report, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to stop a £66 million star from securing a transfer to Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United’s 2025 transfer plans are beginning to take shape as Rúben Amorim continues to familiarise himself with the squad at Old Trafford.
The 39-year-old head coach has now managed six games since his arrival. He secured his first victory against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, followed by a commanding 4-0 win over Everton in the Premier League.
Most recently, United defeated FC Plzen in Europe, adding another positive result to Amorim’s record at the helm. Despite these successes, the team has faced setbacks, with losses to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, as well as a draw with Ipswich Town in league action.
Attention has already turned to the club’s 2025 transfer strategy, with a recognition that selling some high-profile players may be necessary to generate the funds required for squad reinforcements.
Klopp to block transfer
As revealed by UtdDistrict last month, Amorim has decided he wants to bring in at least two midfielders in 2025, one to play further back while a second comes in to compete for the No. 10 spaces in his system.
Last summer, United were heavily interested in Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons, although the 21-year-old ended up instead signing for RB Leipzig on loan from Paris St. Germain.
He has since become a mainstay in their Bundesliga starting XI, and the club want to hold on to the dazzling international permanently this coming summer. PSG are said to want around £66 million for him.
According to German transfer specialist Christian Falk, the club hope that the incoming global head of soccer at Red Bull and former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp can convince “explosive” Simmons to stay and block a transfer away amid interest from United, Arsenal, and Liverpool.
“Leipzig are interested in keeping Xavi Simons permanently,” Falk explained.
“However, they can’t agree another loan move next term, as you’re only allowed to do it twice to the same club. So, next summer, they have to see if they can buy him from PSG.
“PSG want about €80m (£66.1m) for his services, which is too high for Leipzig. I heard they were thinking about €50m (£41.3m) up front and then a further €30m (£24.7m) to PSG if they sell Simons to another club.”
The Bundesliga specialist continued: “Interestingly for Leipzig, they now have a secret weapon in the form of former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, which they could potentially rely upon.
“He’s starting his new role with Red Bull on January 1 and they hope that he’s the man who could persuade Simons to stay put. This will be the first challenge for Klopp in his new role.”
