Journalist reveals TWO secret reasons why Manchester United are keeping Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have decided to keep manager Erik ten Hag after a thorough end-of-season review was completed this week.
It has been a major topic for months now, and David Ornstein confirmed the news that Ten Hag would stay on Tuesday evening.
The Athletic reporter also explained that United are now set to enter negotiations with the Dutchman over a new contract. His current deal ends in the summer of 2025.
Ten Hag has won two trophies since he joined the Old Trafford club in 2022 and guided the team to a third-place Premier League finish in his debut campaign.
However, the team struggled during the 2023/24 campaign and ended eighth in the Premier League – their worst finish since its inception in 1992.
FA Cup glory last month allowed the manager to end the season on a high note, but it seemed like he was walking a tightrope. Some reports even claimed that he would lose his job no matter what happened at Wembley.
A report from MailOnline follows up on the story and explains that those in charge of the process at Old Trafford were well aware of the large number of supporters who wanted Ten Hag to stay at the club.
Manchester United fan group, The Red Army, released a statement towards the end of last month demanding that Sir Jim Ratcliffe made the decision to keep Erik ten Hag in charge.
A statement posted on X, formally known as Twitter, read: “Sir Jim, if you care about the match going fans (and proper Utd everywhere), you’ll stand by our manager. We want him to stay, do the right thing.”
INEOS chiefs were also assessing their options during this period, conducting meetings with the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Kieran McKenna.
The aforementioned report also claimed that the victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City strengthened the Dutch manager’s case to stay in the eyes of the decision-makers.
