One journalist has revealed the key advice that Ruben Amorim gave to Leny Yoro during a Manchester United training session this week.

Ruben Amorim took charge at Manchester United last week and began his work on the training pitch on Monday after visa approvals for him and his staff were finalised.

It was noticed by fans that Amorim had set his team up in the 3-4-3 formation during his opening training session at Carrington.

The club uploaded clips of the session and the back three included Leny Yoro, Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw – with several players still on international duty at this point.

What fans didn’t notice was a key piece of advice that Amorim gave Yoro in training this week which shows how he wants his defence to play.

At Sporting, we often seen the wide centre-backs in Amorim’s system spread wide. This would help create angles and force the opposition to try and cover large spaces.

The Athletic reporter Mark Carey detailed that Amorim pulled Yoro aside in training at Carrington.

He told the 19-year-old, who was playing as the right centre-back, to pull wide and “be more open, take the ball, and you already know that they (the opponent) can’t press from here (behind).”

It is similar to the advice we saw Amorim giving Kobbie Mainoo in a training clip, where the head coach was emphasising the way in which the midfielder wants to receive passes in build up.

Yoro has shown to have the speed and athleticism to deal with playing as a wide centre-back in a back three out of possession and Amorim seems to be trying to maximise his potential with the ball at his feet, with the youngster set to play a key role under the new boss.

Amorim has already explained that he will not be able to make a load of major changes in such a short amount of time, but that he will look to improve the small details – which looks to be the case in this example as well.

“Simple things (need to improve) I think,” he said in his first press conference. “We lose the ball too often, we have to be better at running back and we have to be very good in the details.

“We have to improve the small things. Understanding the small things, I think is what I’m good at.”
