Joshua Zirkzee reveals Man Utd shirt number and Leny Yoro to get legend’s old number
Joshua Zirkzee has revealed the Manchester United shirt number he expects to receive as fans call for Leny Yoro to receive a legend’s old number.
Zirkzee, 23, joined United last week to become the first signing of the INEOS era at Old Trafford.
The young striker will provide important support for Rasmus Højlund but could also be utlised across the frontline. He is considered by the club as a versatile forward.
Many have wondered what shirt number the Dutchman will wear, and he has since touched on the subject.
Speaking on Dutch outlet Supergaande, the new United forward explained how he was relaxed between taking no.11 or no.9, depending on what Hojlund’s preference is.
“It depends on what Højlund is going to do. He’s a striker, so the No. 9 is now free, but he’s got 11,” he said.
“So I can imagine that he says, ‘I’d like to have that No. 9 as a striker’. But then I’ll just take that 11. So it’ll probably be 11.”
Zirkzee’s comments come as no surprise, not only considering his character but also the fact that he wore both the no.11 and no.9 shirts during his time at Bologna.
The details will likely be finalised once both players return to the United squad after their post-Euro 2024 holidays.
Meanwhile, Leny Yoro is expected to complete his United move on Thursday in what will be regarded as a massive coup after he was being chased by Real Madrid.
The young centre-back from Lille wore the no.15 shirt during his time in Ligue 1, and many supporters are eager for him to keep that shirt number – previously worn by club legend Nemanja Vidic – at Old Trafford.
It is also the shirt number that makes the most sense for the young French defender, with the no.4 being the number Matthijs de Ligt would be keen to receive if he also joins the club.
