Kobbie Mainoo has been likened to Real Madrid legend Luka Modric by former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.

Kobbie Mainoo once again showed off his brilliant plethora of skills, scoring a brilliant goal against Liverpool as Manchester United held the Premier League title challengers to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

In the second half, Mainoo swivelled on the edge of the area after receiving a pass from Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 18-year-old touched the ball across his body before taking a perfect swing to curl it past Caoimhin Kelleher.

In the last few months, Mainoo has proved himself to be a genuinely brilliant player regardless of age, and has certainly caught the eye of some legendary players.

Former United centre-half Nemanja Vidic was quick to pile on the praise for Mainoo, comparing him to Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.

“Mainoo has been fantastic, especially his awareness in these areas – He reminds me sometimes of Modric; he can always feel who is behind him,” Vidic told Premier League productions.

“So you can see that he did the first touch, straight away moved to the side. It’s a great strike, difficult to defend that.”

Mainoo himself admitted that although it was an “unbelievable” feeling to score his first professional goal at Old Trafford, he could not help but feel disappointed by the result.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to score my first Old Trafford goal and to do it in this fixture was even more special,” Mainoo told Sky Sports after the game. “We didn’t get the three points, and that’s the main thing.”

He continued: Disappointed, to be honest. I think we performed really well in the second half. The lads made minor mistakes, and if we iron them out, then we win the game.

“Mistakes happen in games, and they can be detrimental. It’s tough, and it takes it out of you. Again, details that we’ve missed. I have my own jobs in the team, but the flick-on got to him in space.”
