Joshua Zirkzee has decided on his future as a Manchester United player amid strong transfer interest from Italian side AS Roma.
During the summer transfer window, Manchester United brought in highly sought-after forward Benjamin Šeško to replace the misfiring Rasmus Højlund, who is spending the season at Napoli.
The Slovenian forward has been a strong addition to Ruben Amorim’s attack, but has unfortunately picked up an injury that has left him out of action for at least a month.
This injury has given Joshua Zirkzee the chance to reenter the frame, as he has started three of United’s last four games. The Dutchman even managed a fantastic goal against Crystal Palace in his side’s 2-1 victory.
Zirkzee was being rumoured with a potential January exit from Old Trafford due to his lack of game time at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, although his situation has since changed.
Zirkzee makes Roma decision
As reported by Sky Sport News, Zirkzee has opted to stay at United to fight for his place in the squad, even despite strong interest from AS Roma.
The Serie A side would prefer to sign the Dutchman on loan, with a right to buy if certain conditions are met.
The Reds are aware of interest surrounding their forward, although they are not actively looking to sell him when the transfer window opens.
With both Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo heading to AFCON in the next week, there is likely to be plenty more opportunities for Zirkzee in the near future, where he can continue to prove his worth.
Zirkzee’s growing importance
If the Reds were to let Zirkzee go in January, then there is every chance that they may be left light in numbers for their attacking department for the busiest period of the season.
United only have the Premier League and the FA Cup to focus on, but even still, Christmas remains a busy fixture period where they may be short of firepower.

Even upon Šeško’s return to the side, Zirkzee should still have a huge part to play, as United don’t currently have any other senior options to lead their line.
Hopefully, the Dutch forward can continue to prove his worth to Amorim ahead of the January window, and he can carry on playing a part even once his competition has returned.
